LASCO observed a wide partial halo CME on 2003/08/17. The
event was first observed in C2 data at 16:06 UT as a faint
loop front in the SE; this front spanned 170 deg from PA 60
- PA 230 by 03:06 UT the following day. The front first
appeared in C3 at 02:18 UT with maximal coverage of the C3
occultor by 04:42 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this
event was 166 km/s at PA98, with moderate acceleration.

EIT did not observe a clear eruptive event in association
with this event: due to special LASCO images of Venus
being taken between 15-17 UT there is no EIT data
available for that period. This event has therefore been
determined possibly frontsided in lieu of unambiguous
data either way.

Movies and images of this event will shortly available at:

ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20030817

Best wishes,
	Gareth Lawrence.
