Subject: Backside halo CME on 2001/01/05
Status: O
LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME today, 2001/01/05. The event was
first visible as a bright front over the W limb in C2 at 17:06 UT, and
later extended over all PA to form a full halo.
EIT observations indicate that the event occurred on the backside of the
Sun. Diming of the corona can be seen above the W limb prior to 17:00 UT.
A probable filament eruption and two-ribbon flare was observed in the
northern hemisphere of the disk, just S of AR 9297, beginning at 17:36 UT.
However, the timing indicates that this event was probably not associated
with the halo CME.
Best wishes and Happy New Year to all,
Simon Plunkett.
