Subject: More halos on 2000/11/24 and 2000/11/25
Status: O
LASCO observed several more halo CMEs yesterday (2000/11/24) and today
(2000/11/25). These events are briefly summarized below. I have not had
time to measure speeds or to verify surface associations, but the timings
seem to correspond to the large M and X flares of the last two days. Note
that there is a temporary data gap in the LASCO data from about 22:30 on
11/24 to 04:00 on 11/25, due to a gap in DSN contact with SOHO. Thus it is
not clear if the first event listed is really a halo, although images
taken after the gap suggest that this is the case. Also, the first large M
flare on 11/25 occurred during this gap in contact. These data should be
available in the next few days.
Date/Time Comment
2000/11/24 22:06 Large bright loop in NW. Maybe a halo, but
occurred right before a data gap.
2000/11/25 09:30 Full halo, brightest in W, faint in E.
2000/11/25 19:31 Full halo, brightest in W.
More on these events, and the event from 11/24 at 15:30 UT, tomorrow or
Monday.
Best wishes,
Simon Plunkett.
