Subject: Halo CME on 2000/02/09

Status: O

LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME yesterday, 2000/02/09. The event
was first visible in C2 at 19:54 UT in the SW, and later extended all
around the occulting disk. The leading edge appeared as a fuzzy front
followed by a bright sharp edge. The plane-of-sky speed of the leading
edge was 884 km/s.

The CME was associated with a C7.3 X-ray event in or near AR 8853, located
at S13 W27. EIT observed this event as a filament activation over several
hours, with eruption of the filament at 19:25 UT. Bright post-eruption
loops were observed beginning at 19:48 UT.

Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server:

ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000209.

Best wishes,

Simon Plunkett.
