Subject: Full Halo CME on 2003/11/11, backsided
Status: O
LASCO observed a full halo CME on 2003/11/11. A bright
loop was first visible in C2 images at 02:30 UT spanning
from the SE to NW while fainter extensions were visible
around the rest of the occultor. A bright loop front was
visible from the SE and NW in C3 images at 02:42 UT and
had developed to a full halo CME by 03:18 UT.
EIT running difference images clearly show a major
backsided eruption from 02:12 UT, with peak activity
at 02:24 UT. This event has therefore been determined
backsided.
Note that the westward asymmetry of this CME in
LASCO images is consistent with the likely position
of old AR 0486. Please note also that LASCO and EIT
have observed a number of fast bright backsided E limb
CMEs that are consistent with the expected position
of old AR 0484, which rotated over the W limb on
2003/10/30.
Best wishes,
Gareth Lawrence.
