LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2002/11/24. The
event was first observed in C2 at 20:06 UT as a bright loop
front over the NE limb; by 20:58 UT the front spanned 160 deg
from PA 265 - 65, with further very faint extensions in the
S hemisphere. The front first appeared in C3 at 20:42 UT with
maximal coverage of the C3 occultor by 21:42 UT. Note that
the emission in the S hemisphere is brighter in C3 than in C2.
The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event was 1042 km/s at
PA 10, with moderate acceleration possible through the fields
of view.
The CME was probably most associated with an eruptive prominence
observed by EIT between 19:13 - 21:12 UT centered around
N17E34. SEC records a C6.4 X-ray event from AR10198 at S17W37
between 2014 - 2057 UT with peak emission at 2029 UT but the
EIT data suggest that a portion of the X-ray flux may be
due to the post-CME loops. It is possible that a slight
dimming, and an even slighter EIT wave, could be identified
in association with this event, but both were very limited.
