Subject: Full HALO CME on 2000/05/05

Status: O

LASCO observed a full HALO CME on 2000/05/05. This event was observed in
the C2 camera at 15:50 UT with the bright loop front emerging from the
South West at PA 250 degrees. Traveling through the C2 field at over 1400
km/sec, and speeds averaging to in the C3 field, we observed a full 360
degree HALO event in the Corona.

This event was due to a very long duration M1.5 flare from AR 8976 just on
limbs edge at location [S16; W84]. EIT saw this event start at 15:12 UT
with the split of loops over the limb and a very bright structure ejected
at high velocity. A wave in EIT is seen that projects across the lower
regions of the disk with material spanning above the Pole in the North in
difference images, apparently from the backside and quite possibly from
the flare.

The saturated objects in the C3 field of view from left to right are;
Planets Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury.
