LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2002/08/16. The
event was first observed in C2 at 12:30 UT as a bright loop
front over the SE limb; by 12:54 UT the C2 occulting disk
was surrounded, though emission in the NW was fainter.
The front first appeared in C3 at 12:42 UT with full
coverage of the C3 occultor by 13:42. SOHO then lost real
time telemtry from 13:50 UT and the data from that gap are
yet to be recovered and processed; we therefore have only
four images for analysis. Based on four data points the
plane of sky speed of the front was measured as 1404 km/s
at PA 117 (SE).
The CME was most probably associated with an M5.2 X-ray flare
and associated prominence eruption in AR0069, which EIT
observed between 11:36 - 12:48 UT with peak emission/activity
at 11:48 centered on S06E17. GOES observed the flare between
11:32 - 12:32 UT with peak emission at 13:07. Both an EIT wave
and dimming were observed in association with this event.
