Subject: Full Halo CME on 2002/07/09, backsided
Status: O
LASCO observed a full halo CME on 2002/07/09. Bright emission
was first seen well into C2 all around the occulting disk at
19:31 UT. The 20:18 UT C3 image shows the leading edge at ~10 Rs
with emission all around the occulting disk. The previous C2 and
C3 images were taken at 18:30 and 18:18 UT respectively; the
relatively poor image cadence in both coronagraphs is due to
EIT taking a set of synoptic images in all four wavelengths from
19:00 UT, and the present C2 polarisation image campaign.
The difference between the EIT 195A images taken at 18:24 and
19:13 UT clearly show evidence of a large backsided CME over
the W limb, hence this event has been determined backsided.
Best wishes,
Gareth Lawrence.
