LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2001/10/09. The
event was first observed well into C2 at 11:30 UT as a fast,
bright, wide loop front over the S pole with extensions over
the E limb. By 11:54 UT the C2 occulting disk was surrounded.
The front first appeared in C3 at 11:42 UT with full coverage
of the C3 occultor by 12:42 UT. The plane of sky speed of the
front was measured as 1041 km/s at PA 188 (S) with significant
acceleration through the coronagraphs' fields of view.

The CME was most probably associated with an M1.4 X-ray flare in
AR9653 between 10:46 and 11:49 UT with peak emission at 11:13.
EIT also observed this flare between 11:00 and 11:36, peaking at
11:12. SEC places the flare at S23E17. An EIT wave was observed
in association with this event, but no significant dimming, and
bright post-eruption loops are clearly visible after 11:36 UT.
