LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2001/04/12. The event
was first observed in C2 at 10:31 UT as a wide bright front in
the SW. By 11:30 this bright front spanned some 180 deg from
PA 145 to 325, with faint extensions around the rest of the C2
occulting disk. The bright front first appeared in C3 at
11:18 UT with the C3 occultor surrounded by 12:48. The plane
of sky speed of the fastest region of the front was measured
as 912 km/s at PA 243 (SW) with significant deceleration
through both coronagraphs.
The CME was probably associated with an X2.0 X-ray flare in
AR 9415. GOES records the flare between 09:39 and 10:49 UT with
peak emission at 10:28. The flare was observed in EIT from
10:25 to 11:48 UT with peak emission at 10:36. An EIT wave was
observed during the event, as were dimmings.
